Charitable Donations Octave is an entirely voluntary organisation and, after the deduction of running costs, surplus funds from our annual concerts are donated to charity. The group nominates a charity each year. Following our concerts in 2011 to 2013, we were delighted to present a cheque for £1,000 each year to three very worthy causes; The British Heart Foundation, Maggie’s Caring Cancer Centre (based at Wishaw General Hospital) and Diabetes UK Scotland. Last year we were pleased to be able to donate £1,250 to The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice based in Glasgow. Pictured are Octave members who visited the hospice and handed over a cheque to staff. 2015 Charity – Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland Octave has chosen to support Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland (CHSS) with the proceeds from the 2015 concerts. CHSS is Scotland’s health charity. Every day 100,000 people in Scotland struggle to breathe due to chronic chest illness. Every 22 minutes someone in Scotland will have a heart attack or stroke. CHSS’s mission is to support people in Scotland affected by these conditions and improve their quality of life, through medical research, influencing public policy, advice and information and support in the community. CHSS needs to raise £5 million every year in order to maintain and expand its vital work in research and community services. CHSS is almost entirely reliant on the continuing generosity of the Scottish public, business and community organisations to raise these funds. Every pound raised in Scotland is spent on research and services in Scotland. More information about this cause is available at www.chss.org.uk and at the stand at the back of the auditorium
Welcome! Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen and welcome to the GLO Auditorium for our fifth annual concert: Octave – 5till GLO-ing! Since our concert last year we have had a busy but enjoyable year entertaining a number of groups for social events, including the Guilds of Eaglesham, St Machans (Larkhall), Uddingston and Coltness (Wishaw). Octave also performed fundraising concerts on behalf of the Larkhall & District Inner Wheel and the Scottish Bible Society, helping both these organisations raise over £1,000 to fund the many good causes they support. Octave was also the after-dinner entertainment at the West of Scotland Rotary’s annual dinner held at the police college in Tullieallan. I would like to record my grateful thanks to the eight singers and note my admiration for their dedication and talent. Rehearsals are hard work, but fun – we all enjoy each other’s company and laughs are never far away. They rise to any challenge making this whole process very enjoyable! My thanks also to you for supporting us and enabling us to raise funds this year for Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland. I hope to welcome you back to our 2016 fundraising venture but for now, please sit back, relax and enjoy!
